Bio

Here's the Skinny

Who's RMF Anyhow?

Welcome, my name is Ryan Michael Forté; thanks for checking out my work. I'm just a kid in a grown up body trying to find the peace I lost attempting to "grow up." I was raised in the mid-west (Minnesota to be precise) with eight siblings and a whole lot of adventure. The music I produce floats in genre, but folk has landed as a pretty solid constant these days. I hope to craft sonic art with raw emotions and imagery that feels like you've stepped into the song.

My parents introduced me to music early on, which helped set me up to enter college for music. I became a multi-instrumentalist after a friend told me I was a savant, it wasn't true then and I told him as much. He laughed, replying "Well, not yet. But there's still time." That simple shift in my mentality made me want to become one.

I went on to teach music and travel experiencing a world of unknowns and learning things about myself and others I could never truly hope to understand. Still, I make every attempt to grasp it by contemplating the ins and outs of all I've seen, heard, and felt. Then, I write it in a song, so that just maybe I won't be the only one to learn from it.

For years, I chased after fame, always asking myself if this is what I really want. The grind, the rat race, the back to back nights of playing everywhere I can get into. I've busked through Europe, played for audiences of various sizes, and found the thing I want most is peace. Fame won't fill your soul, and money only feeds so much, but peace that is a priceless commodity.

These days I write to understand, and share what I can. Being present with those I'm around has become increasingly important. I continue to write and record and probably always will, but I'm done chasing the flashy lights. I'm just moving at my own pace.
