From the recording Not In This Place
As wild as it sounds, I heard this song in a dream while I watched the man searching for the boy and the child experiencing the wild journey of being lost, hopeless, scared, on the run, and finally found. Turns out this story was really about my life experience and Jesus meeting chasing me down, searching me out, and promising to stay even though I'm a mess of a man. enjoy the tale
Lyrics
Verse 1
I walked out to the forest once again
The grove where the child used to spend
All his time and every care
Until the boy disappeared.
The town was full of fright and then forgot.
Now, no one ventures to that forest plot.
Verse 2
I tracked down every step that he took,
And came across his writing in a book.
“From the mountain peak to valleys beneath,
From the tops of trees to that little creek,
The monsters and the beast, they keep me up.
If they hear me breathe, I’ll have to run.”
Verse 3
I found his makeshift fortress and his den
A painted sign warned not to enter in,
And the crooked window from where he wrote,
“The lilies lie from down below
I think I lost my only way back home
The wind blew strong, and the path is overgrown.”
Verse 4
I read through every story page by page
The moments of triumph, pain, and rage
Every cold and lonely night
The splotches where his tears had dried
Until I came across that final phrase,
“Won’t someone come and take me from this place.”
Verse 5
I lit a lamp and stepped out in the dark
Followed every symbol carved in bark
The boy had tried to make his way
Soon it all looks the same
I found him in a distant little cave
His parched lips pleading me to stay
End
I told him I wouldn’t leave him ‘lone
Wouldn’t leave him all on his own
